Waxworms are naturally high in fat, thus they should only be given as a special treat and not as a normal food source.
Because waxworms have a high phosphorus content, dust them liberally with calcium powder before serving.
Waxworms should be cared for in the following ways:
At normal temperature, waxworms can endure up to two weeks. However, you can keep them at 50-60 degrees for up to 4 weeks if you keep them cool. With a wine cooler and low humidity, this is the best way to go. Waxworms should not be allowed to cool below 50°F.
